First-Year Interest Group Seminars (FIGS)

PhotoStudents in the AIMS and Rosalind Franklin Learning Community participate in a uniquely designed FIGS course focused on Exploring Careers in the Sciences. FIGS is a one-credit course graded Pass/No-Credit, is limited to 25 students and runs for 10 weeks only in the fall semester of the first-year. Each FIGS course includes 12 elements that help introduce students to both Rutgers and the special topic of the FIGS. The elements consist of creating a supportive learning environment, information literacy, tools for academic success, academic planning and requirements, out of class excursions, E-portfolio, diversity/multiculturalism, peer perspective, personal wellness, faculty connections, career development and a final culminating project focused on science careers.

FIGS combine academic and co-curricular enhancement rooted in an emphasis on the exploration of a discipline. FIGS are designed to meet the following goals.
